In November last year I reported about my painting gear being packed up and stored. For the last 5 months we’ve been working on our house renovation project like crazy and last weekend all that hard work finally paid off. We moved out of our temporary living/dining room and occupied our new and improved living room and kitchen.

This means the room is available again for the purposes it served previously, with one important part being my preferred location for painting 🙂

Yesterday I cleaned the room and earlier tonight I assembled my desk again. There’s not much to see but here’s a picture anyway. A picture of an empty desk, you probably don’t understand why I’m so excited about this 😀

As you might notice the desk is placed in the corner where my other desk (used for storage and assembly) was originally located. This desk was mainly just storage so I will look for an alternative solution for this (probably some shelves agains the wall).

Apart from that I want to invest into a paint storage system instead of my home-made paint stand. I am currently looking to HobbyZone’s modular system.

Hello readers! As written in a blog post back in November my painting desks had to move to make place for a temporary living room because of the renovation works on my house. The renovation itself is going well, although we have a long way to go still. It’s difficult to make predictions right now, but as it stands now my dedicated painting setup won’t return before March. But as mentioned in te previous blog post I compiled a little survival kit to be able to some painting now and then. Let’s have a look.

Basically everything I need is in the box, except for the lamp. My tri-tube light took a bit too much space, and also isn’t as easy to setup quickly on our dinner table.

The top level stores most tools, brushes and glues, as well as some work in progress miniatures.

The insides of the box itself contains a plastic bag with some of my paints. Since the only project I am currently doing is my Mordor Lord of the Rings army, I have all the paints I need in here. Other contents: cutting mat, lamp foot, my recipe booklet, pallet, water cup.

So that’s all for this little wrap up. I have all the gear necessary here, but I noticed that the fact that I need to unpack all of this stuff, install the lamp, get some water sometimes keeps me from starting a small painting session. While previously I just had to sit on my desk and I could just resume painting where I left off without any hassle. But I understand there are plenty of you who don’t have the luxury for a dedicated setup, so all the more respect for you.

Anyway I made good progress on my Lord of the Rings army, but that’s something for a next blog post.

Crisis 2016 event report

This year’s Crisis was pretty similar to last year’s event, with some minor differences. If you’re not interested in my write-up but want to see the full set of pictures right away, then you can check them out here:

The show when I entered, I arrived rather late (about 14:30h I think), so there were already a lot of people leaving but it was still very crowded inside. I made a quick sweep through the two halls, occasionally stopping for a chat with the many known faces (good to see you all again btw). Then I took my camera out and went for a detailed tour.

As you can see from the haze the air was still infused with hot-dog cooking fumes 🙂

Most traders were in the exact same position as last year, for example Warlord Games, one of the first booths I encountered.

Traditionally, Crisis is still a show which mainly relies on historical miniatures.

Pretty impressive 40k table:

As always, a good mix of weird miniature lines were available, like these ghostbusters from Studio Miniatures:

Another game system which keeps intruiging me is Dropfleet commander. Check out these cool new modular space stations they are releasing:

Sagas is also a very popular game:

The Guild Ball booth was one of the eye-catchers in last year’s show. It was crowded and they were constantly selling deals. Guild Ball was the hot new thing in fantasy football town.

This year however the stand looked a lot more empty. Not sure what caused this, but it was very apparent if you ask me.

Of course many clubs were present. Some of them simply presenting their miniatures and tables, other giving participation or initiation games.

I was very surprised to see some Darklands miniatures at the show. With their amazing miniatures and skirmish-sized armies this is really the game a painter like me would like. Good to know a Belgian group is now actively promoting the game. I made a long chat with Kristof from Darklands Wargamers and it really sparked my interest.

The only thing I really planned on buying at the show (yes I resisted buying actual miniatures!) was a transport system for my little LotR Mordor force I am currently painting. I bought a small box from KR Multicase:

Apart from that, a new brush and some brush soap…

As usual great show, great atmosphere and great people. See you in 2017 😀

The studio is closing down for a while

Hello readers, Corvus here. Yes it has been a while since my last blog post, after which I actually did quite some painting, but never got around posting here.

The main project I have been working on is a Lord of the Rings army. Ever since my painting workshop back in April, my interest in the game and its miniatures grew, to the point which I ordered 500 points of Mordor miniatures. I only played a game with a part of this army once, the plan is to paint a couple of extra miniatures before trying my luck again. Looking forward to my next visit to a Fellowship of the Miniatures club evening 🙂 A picture from my first game:

But the last month or so there hasn’t been much painting going on. Reason for this are the renovation works which are going on around my house. Because of this we will have to move some stuff around the house, since we will not be able to use our living room and kitchen for a couple of months. So the studio will have to be disassembled for now, making room for a temporary living room. This is a picture from last week, everything was packed up, the painting table itself already removed from the room:

I spent quite some time cleaning all the dust from my display miniatures, moving the display cabinet and making it dustproof. It is now located in the hallway upstairs:

Will this mean no painting at all? Of course not. I made a little “survival kit” with necessary supplies to work on my Mordor army, and the paints are still within reach. I can sit at the (improvised) kitchen table to do some painting of course.

Malifaux Wyrd Games

Painted up this Malifaux boxed set up as a commission. This was a project which really suited my style, so I had a lot of fun painting these figures 🙂
